As a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Andrew Lum is passionate about helping patients achieve complete oral and overall health. Dr. Lum completed his postgraduate training in periodontics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he served as chief resident during his final year and simultaneously completed a masters degree in oral biology which focused on understanding the characteristics of periodontal bone remodeling.
Prior to this, he obtained his dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He is excited to return to serve the San Diego community where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and cellular biology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and developed a passion for helping others while volunteering in the UC San Diego Community Dental Clinics.
Dr. Lum is dedicated towards providing each patient with personalized care that combines the latest techniques with fundamental knowledge to achieve predictable outcomes in aesthetics, comfort, health and function. He has published in the Journal of Periodontology on risk factors for sinus augmentation complications, and conducted research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) focused on the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. Outside of work, Dr. Lum enjoys cycling, running, and exploring different cultures through his love for food and photography.
